The Petroleum Commission is the regulator of Ghana’s upstream petroleum industry and custodian of upstream petroleum data in Ghana. The Commission was established by an Act of Parliament, the Petroleum Commission Act 2011, (Act 821), following Ghana’s discovery of hydrocarbons in commercial quantities in 2007.

It is mandated to manage the nation’s upstream petroleum resources, regulate and coordinate industry activities while ensuring efficient operations. This includes monitoring and enforcing compliance with national laws and policies governing upstream petroleum activities. The Commission also promotes local content and participation, ensures strong health, safety, and environmental standards nationwide.
