Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Honorary Subsoil Prospector, Deputy Director of Oil and Gas Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences
He is a leading specialist in the development and application of geophysical methods for exploration and development of hydrocarbon fields. He is the author of more than 400 scientific publications, including 19 monographs, 18 patents, 11 petroleum geology atlases. He created the theoretical foundations and methods for complex geophysical studies of heterogeneous and anisotropic geological environments. He has developed innovative technologies for land and offshore seismic exploration, including real-time monitoring of reservoir development and hazardous fluid flows in the wellbore annulus (4D seismic). He studied the oil and gas potential of a number of regions of the Arctic and World Ocean; substantiated the possible phase composition of hydrocarbons in the sedimentary strata and basement of the Arctic; carried out megaregional and local forecasts of gas hydrates in the Arctic and northern parts of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans; studied the distribution of permafrost on the East Siberian Arctic Shelf and substantiated their high level of degradation. Based on interdisciplinary research in the Arctic, he substantiated the genesis of the formation of giant craters of explosive degassing of the Earth; identified more than 8 thousand zones of intense natural and man-made gas emissions. He substantiated strategically important directions of the Russian fuel and energy complex development. He has repeatedly participated in expeditions in the Arctic and the World Ocean. Scientific and technical developments have been implemented in 38 organizations and companies in Russia and other countries. Chief editor of the journal "Arctic: Ecology and Economy".
