Kenichi Okamoto
Director
Japan Petroleum & Carbon Neutral Fuels Energy Center
Kenichi OkAMOTO holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering of Waseda University and joined Nippon Oil Corporation (now ENEOS), Japan's largest oil company. He has over 30 years of knowledge and experience in internal combustion engines and fuels research.
He has been a key contributor to the research and development of fuel standards (e.g., lower sulfur for gasoline and diesel, reduction of evaporative emissions from gasoline-powered vehicles, and maximum blending concentrations for biofuels) and the effective use of heavy oil as fuel, in cooperation with Japanese government (Ministry of Economy (METI), Trade and Industry, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), and Ministry of the Environment (MOE)), the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) and the Japan Petroleum Association (JPA).
These results have been presented at Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan, Inc. (JSAE), Japan Petroleum Institute (JPI) and other domestic and international conferences.
He has served as a reviewer for SAE and JSAE papers on fuel quality and automotive technologies such as synthetic fuels and biofuels.
He is currently Director of Japan Petroleum and Carbon Neutral Fuels Technology Center, a non-profit organization, that serves as a nodal point for related organizations and academia, and as the leader of a national project, Synthetic Fuels Research and Development Project, which is working toward the early introduction of liquid synthetic fuels (e-fuel) to the market.
