Dr Alex Lee is a Partner at HKA Global, where he leads dispute services for environment and climate, regularly handling complex claims valued up to £750 million. He has provided expert opinion in cases involving environmental damage, negligence, investor-state disputes, appeals, and arbitration. His portfolio includes high-profile and sensitive matters across energy transition, climate change, sustainability, land contamination, waste, and biodiversity.
A Chartered Geologist (CGeol), European Geologist (EurGeol), and Chartered Scientist (CSci), Alex is also an accredited environmental risk assessor (ASoBRA). He was recognised as Financier Worldwide’s “Power Player 2023 – Exceptional Expert” in ESG.
Alex holds multiple industry leadership roles, contributing to the development of guidance, standards, and policy. He is the outgoing Chair of the UK National Brownfield Forum, serves on the Steering Group of the UK National Land Quality Mark Scheme, and is a Director of the Association of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Specialists. He previously chaired the Society of Brownfield Risk Assessors.
With a strong track record in delivering complex energy transition disputes, Alex combines deep technical insight with commercial acumen. Based in Glasgow, he is passionate about decarbonisation, cross-sector collaboration, and driving innovation to achieve net-zero goals.
