Abdulrahman Alyemni

Senior Policy Development Specialist

Ministry of Energy

Saudi Arabia

Abdulrahman Al-Yemni is an energy professional with multidisciplinary experience across power systems, electricity markets, gas operations, and renewable energy policy. He currently serves as a Senior Policy Development Specialist at the Ministry of Energy in Saudi Arabia, where he contributes to renewable energy policy development, strategic studies, and related initiatives that support the Kingdom’s evolving energy priorities. In his current role, he has also served in an acting director capacity. His work at the Ministry has involved engagement with key policy topics and the broader development of the renewable energy landscape in the Kingdom.

Before joining the Ministry of Energy, Abdulrahman worked at Saudi Aramco, where he served as an Electrical Technical Support Engineer. In this role, he contributed to the commissioning and technical operations of major gas facilities, gaining valuable experience in one of the most operationally critical segments of the energy sector. Prior to that, he worked at National Grid SA, where he was involved in electricity market development and grid operational matters, including work related to ancillary services market rules. These roles gave him exposure to different dimensions of the energy sector, from grid and market structures to hydrocarbons operations and public policy.

Academically, Abdulrahman holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering with first honours from King Faisal University. His research focused on electricity market modelling and optimal energy mix design, reflecting a strong interest in the intersection of technical systems, economics, and policy. In parallel with his professional work, he has published several research papers in prestigious journals and conferences in areas such as electricity markets, renewable integration, and ancillary services. One of his papers received a Best Paper Award, further highlighting the quality and relevance of his research contributions.

Through both his professional and academic journey, Abdulrahman has built a broad perspective on the energy sector by working across its technical, operational, market, and policy dimensions. This combination of experience has shaped his interest in practical, forward-looking solutions that support a more resilient, secure, and sustainable energy future. He continues to contribute to the sector through policy work, research, and cross-disciplinary engagement aimed at supporting energy development in a rapidly evolving global context. He is particularly interested in connecting technical insight with practical policy solutions and in contributing to energy systems that are more reliable, balanced, and responsive to future needs.

His interests also extend to cross-sector collaboration, market reform, and policy approaches that balance reliability, affordability, and sustainability.
