Mehmet Öğütçü

Mehmet Öğütçü is an internationally recognised strategist, former Turkish diplomat and global energy thought leader with over 40 years of experience spanning diplomacy, international organisations, multinational corporations and strategic advisory roles. 

He is Chairman of Global Resources Partnership, Chairman of the London Energy Club, Founder and Chairman of the Bosphorus Energy Club, and Senior Advisor to the owners of BGN International, one of the world’s leading energy and commodities trading companies. Through these roles, he works with governments, national oil companies, international investors, sovereign wealth funds and global corporations on energy security, investment strategy, geopolitics and the future of global markets. 

Earlier in his career, Mr Öğütçü served as a Turkish diplomat in Ankara, Beijing, Brussels and Paris before joining the International Energy Agency (IEA) and later the OECD, where he led programmes on international energy cooperation, global investment and emerging markets. He subsequently served as a Director of BG Group (now part of Shell) and has held senior advisory and board positions with a number of international companies and institutions. 

A widely respected commentator and keynote speaker, Mr Öğütçü has addressed major international forums—including previous World Petroleum Congresses, G20 and APEC-related events, ministerial conferences and leading industry gatherings across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America. He is particularly recognised for his ability to bridge the worlds of energy, geopolitics, finance and public policy, offering strategic insights to both governments and business leaders.
